Hawks Put Final Prep in at Fasttrack Indoor Collegiate Qualifier

Packed Meet Works as Tune-Up Before MEAC Championships

STATEN ISLAND, New York – It was a fine showing by the sprinters of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore track and field squads on Friday, February 10 at the Fasttrack Indoor Collegiate Qualifier at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility in Staten Island, New York.

The standout for the Hawks on the day was Janoi Brown in the 400m taking first place with a 47.75s performance, his first win of the season and second fastest time currently in the conference. Behind Brown was Ashane Beckford, taking third place with a 48.89s.

Brown and Beckford weren't the only two Hawks to place on the day, with Jahlahnee Watkins grabbing second place in the 200m at 21.41s. More impressively for Watkins – it was his first collegiate 200m race and was faced up with a crowd of over 100 finishers.

Other top eight performers on the track for the men were Radjae Reid in 5th during the 60m at 6.94s and Mahki Herring fifth in the 200m at 21.86s.

In the field, Caleb Goslee was fourth in the long jump at 7.12m, setting a new personal record for the senior, and James Perkins in 6th during the weight throw with an attempt at 17.06m.

For the Hawk women, Indya Hansley and Chloe Lucas each had multiple top-eight finishes on the day.

Hansley finished sixth in the shot put at 12.21m, while placing fifth in the weight throw at 15.85m – setting a new personal record in the moment.

Lucas finished seventh at 58.13s in the 400m, slightly behind fellow Hawk Mackenzi Evans who came in fifth at 57.96s, while also picking up an eighth-place finish in the 200m at 25.63s. Spencer Settle also ran the 400m, grabbing a personal record of 58.77s.

Next up for the Hawks are the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Last indoor season, both sides of the Hawks squads took seventh as teams but had some great individual performances of returning student-athletes, including Watkins and Beckford took second and third, respectively, in the 400m.
