Troy Hupstead becomes first Hawk to earn MEAC Player of the Year honors
NORFOLK, Virginia - University of Maryland Eastern Shore forward
Troy Hupstead has been named the 2024 MEAC Defensive Player of the Year. He was also selected to the MEAC 1st-Team.
Hupstead is the first UMES player to garner the Defensive Player of the Year award, and the first major award recipient for the Hawks since 2014-15.
He has recorded seven double-doubles and six 20-point games with an average of 13.5 points on the season to lead the Hawks.
Hupstead led the MEAC in rebounding (9.1) while finishing eighth in scoring (14.8). The 6'7 junior from Mount Vernon, New York was also fourth in field goal percentage (42.4), 15th in free throw percentage (71.9), and sixth in blocked shots per game (0.9).
Hupstead and the Hawks open MEAC tournament play tonight at 8 pm against North Carolina Central at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.
