HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
The scoring opened in the first inning as Mount St. Mary's took a 1-0 lead on a throwing error. MSM's Evan Meier hit a two RBI single in the second inning to up the lead to 3-0. A homerun by Evan Smith in the fourth inning put MSM up 4-0. MSM took full control with a six-run fifth inning highlighted by a grand slam by Scott Seeker. The lead would extend to as much as 19-0 before a solo shot by
Carter Rieben gave UMES it's only run of the contest.
GAME 2
The Hawks regrouped from the opening game with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Bronson Taylor opened the inning with a double and later came around to score the Hawks' first run. Catcher
Doyle McNew connected to left center field for a two-run homerun to five UMES the early 3-1 lead.
Isaiah Beseris delivered a RBI single in the fourth to drive in
Derrick Mayes II. The Hawk momentum began to dwindle in the fifth inning. After putting the first two batters on base, a throwing error allowed the runners to reach second and third base with no outs. A Shane Wockley grounder drove in one run and a sacrifice flyball by Jayson Kramer brought in the next run to narrow the gap to 4-3.Â
In the sixth inning, MSM led off with two singles, Another throwing error allowed the advaning runner to reach home on a fielder's choice. A double by Scott Seeker brought in two more runs. Wockley had a double of his own to drive in two more runs before a a groundout by Jayson Kramer produced the fifth run of the inning and a 9-4 advantage.Â
McNew hit another ball out the park in the bottom of the inning for fifth run for UMES but the Hawks could not rally in the 9-5 loss

Carter Rieben recorded his first career collegiate home run.
Catcher
Doyle McNew also hit his first homerun as a member of the Hawks. McNew has recorded at least one hit in seven of his last 10 games.
UMES freshman
Bronson Taylor has recorded at least one hit in the last seven games and has recorded multiple hits in the last six games. Taylor currently leads UMES with a .405 batting average.
Game two starting pitcher
Raymond Smith a career-high five innings while giving up two hits and three earned runs.
