HOW IT HAPPENED
A comination of pitching control issues along with a trio of base hits led to a 6 run first inning for Wagner. The first two Wagner batters in the second inning reached the bases before a double by Diego Tavarez drove in Mattero Matthews and a single by Chris Kumpf brought home another run to put the Seahawks up by nine after two innings. A homerun by Matthews in the third inning gave Wagner the 11-0 lead. The Hawks tried to battle back by scoring the next five runs of the contest. A

Ryan Davis for the first UMES run in the fourth inning.
Riley Horner drove in two more runs in the inning with a single to center field and later stole second base while causing an off target throw by the catcher to allow
Jason Brown to score.
Doyle McNew added the fifth run with another single to bring home Horner to make the score 11-5 entering the fifth inning.
Wagner regained momentum with a three-run fifth inning thanks to an RBI single by Albert Serrano along with a sacrifice fly by Xavier Ulrich and a bases loaded walk to score Serrano. UMES freshman
Bronson Taylor, who leads the NEC in batting average, continued his hot hand from the plate with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning. Wagner ansered Taylor's shot in the next inning with homeruns by Serrano and Mattews on the way to a four-run seventh inning and a 20-7 lead. Wagner added three more runs in the eighth inning while UMES manafactured one more run in the bottom of the inning on a RBI groundout by
Kenneth Gaskins as the Seahawks cruised to the 23-8 win.
THE NUMBERS
Bronson Taylor, who entered Friday as the NEC leader in batting average (.405), went 2-for-4 from the plater including a two-run homerun.
UMES second baseman
Riley Horner also recorded two hits on the day and his recorded at least one hit in three of the last four games.
A lack of depth at the pitching position continues to hinder the Hawks this season. UMES used five pitchers on Friday which included two positional pitchers. UMES walked 18 batters while hitting three Seahawks at the plate.
