HOW IT HAPPENED
LIu jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two runs in the first inning along with another manafactured run in the second inning on a steal attempt by Benjamin Fierenzi. The Hawks were able to get on the board on a
Jason Brown single to center field to score
Kenneth Gaskins. In the third inning,
Isaiah Beseris hit a single to score
Bronson Taylor. UMES tied the game in the fourth inning as
Anders Brown stole third base and reached home on a throwing error. The Hawks took their first lead in the fifth inning as
Michael Blackiston delivered with a double to score Taylor. Blackiston crossed homeplate later in the inning on a Gaskins single to put UMES up 5-3.
The Sharks chopped into the lead in the seventh inning while taking advantage of some erractic Hawk throwing from the mound. After a Jack Power RBI single in the seventh, it would be Power coming with an RBI in the eighth on a hit by pitch situation to bring the tieing run home. UMES walked another batter with the bases loaded as LIU took a 6-5 edge into the ninth inning. An RBI single by Seth Surrett and another LIU run scored on a fielding error gave the Sharks the insurance runs and the eventual three-run win.
THE NUMBERS
UMES pitchers combined to give up 12 walks while hitting five LIU batters in the loss.
UMES was playing as the home team and will remain listed as the home team throughout the series.

The Hawks left 10 men on base in Friday's loss.

Today was a tough one to lose. We have up to many free passes to first base. I thought we did a better job of hitting with runners in scoring position but it was not enough. We will refocus and come back ready to compete tomorrow.
