How It Happened
In the opening set, North Carolina Central raced to a 5-0 lead before UMES, highlighted by two kills from Rayah Howell, generated a 6-1 run to tie the match. Tied 12-12, the Eagles built an insurmountable lead with a 12-3 scoring run to clinch the first set.
In the second set, Although the two teams split the first 22 points evenly, North Carolina Central mounted a 9-2 scoring run to go ahead by seven. Despite the Hawks, fueled by three consecutive kills from Malaysia Shaw, scoring eight of the next 12 points, the Eagles held on to win set two 25-21.
UMES had early momentum in set three, beginning the frame on an 11-5 run. North Carolina Central rallied to tie the match 20-20 before outsourcing UMES, 5-3, down the stretch to clinch victory in straight sets.
