Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
The rims inside the Pinnacle Bank Arena seemed to shrink for the UMES shooters in the first half as the Hawks managed to shot just 21.4 percent from the field. A 7-0 run by the Hawks sparked by a three pointer from
Joseph Locandro and baskets by
Michael Teal and
Levi Beckwith brought UMES to within three of the bigger Nebraska team. The Cornhuskers regained control by closing out the half on a 18-3 run to take a 32-19 lead into intermission. Seven first half points from
Levi Beckwith and five points from
Trey Hall paced the Hawks on the offensive end.
Â
The Hawks continued to struggle from the field throughout the early stages of the second half as Nebraska extended its lead to 40-21 by the 15:49 mark. UMES managed just one field goal throughout the first six minutes of the second half. A three pointer from Hall at the 13:20 mark ended the Hawk scoring drought but Nebraska quickly answered with a Sam Hoiberg three pointer at the other end.
The deficit ballooned to as many as 31 by the twelve minute mark before UMES finally found some bright spots on the offensive end to narrow the gap down to 15 in the late stages of the game but it was too late as Nebraska cruised to the nineteen point victory.

COMMENTS FROM HEAD COACH CLEO HILL, JR
"We struggled to make the right decisions on offense and I thought we did not do a good enough job of sharing the basketball."
"Against a team like Nebraska, we have to do a much better job of playing together on both ends of the floor. We are going to have to find some better combinations that work well together on the floor in order to win."
"Nebraska does an excellent job of playing a physical brand of basketball. They rebound well and play solid defense and it wore us down."
"We have to regroup. I think we have some correctable areas to work on over the next few days and try to get ready for a tough matchup on Friday against a nationally ranked Creighton basketball team."
UP NEXT
The Hawks remain in Nebraska to face nationally ranked Creighton on Friday at 7 pm cst/8 pm est.
