How It Happened
With second place in the MEAC on the line this high energy match kicked off the Hawks' homecoming festivities. In the opening set, the Hawks and Bison split the first 24 points before Howard pulled away to win 25-16.
After dropping the first set, the Hawks responded in the second frame with intensity and momentum, ending the set with a 25-20 win. UMES got four kills from Anjola Omolewa, three kills from Nkemjika Ikemefuna, and two kills from Malaysia Shaw to even up the match.
Although the Hawks' third set was highlighted with key moments like powerful kills from Jayda Hutchins, Howard outlasted the Hawks, 16-25.
In the final set, UMES initially trailed 13-6 before the Hawks rattled off a 5-1 run, led by two kills from Karielys Melendez and two service aces from Kate-Linh Eden. Despite the answer from the Maroon and Grey, the Hawks ultimately lost set four 25-14, falling to Howard in four sets.Â
