BALTIMORE, Md. - The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (9-16, 6-6) were defeated by the Coppin State Eagles (18-11, 11-1) at the Physical Education Complex.

How It Happened
The Hawks and Eagles began the opening set deadlocked, 13-13. UMES, led by two kills from both Nkemjika Ikemefuna and Jayda Hutchins, then tallied an 8-3 run to take the lead, 21-16. Ultimately, Coppin State upped the ante by closing the set on a 9-2 scoring run to steal the opening frame, 25-23.
In the following set, the Eagles led 11-9 before the Maroon and Grey usurped the lead by generating a 7-1 scoring surge, highlighted by two kills by Anjola Omolewa and a service ace from Valeria Matias. Although Coppin State fought back to tie the match, 20-20, UMES clinched the second set by scoring five of the final seven points to win 25-22.
The Eagles took control of the match in the third set, racing out to a 17-10 lead in the frame. Coppin State never trailed en route to a 25-15 win. The fourth set played out similarly to the third with the Eagles building a 17-10 advantage. Even though Maryland Eastern Shore got within five on a 3-0 scoring run, Coppin State scored seven of the final eight points to cement a four-set victory.
