HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore fell to host Southern Miss in its Golden Eagle Classic opener on Thursday night.

How It Happened
Southern Miss jumped on the Hawks early, scoring four runs on three hits and two errors in its first trip to the plate.

Emily Gunther reached on a hard grounder to shortstop that led to an error. Paige Perkins put the Maroon and Grey on the board in the second inning with an RBI double to left field, bringing Gunther home.

In the top of the third, Jaycee Holt drew a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a DeNae Ojeda single up the middle. Holt later scored on a wild pitch, marking the Hawks' final run of the game.

• Clarke Calvin continued her strong week, tallying a double, a walk, and a stolen base for the Hawks tonight.
• Paige Perkins recorded her first double of the season, along with her first hit and RBI since Feb. 15.
