Hawks Fall to Sharks in Series Finale

SUMMARY

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks fell to the Long Island Sharks, 10-2, in the series finale.

THE SCORE

Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks - 2

Long Island Sharks - 10

(Sharks Sweep Series 3-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

For the third time in this series, the Long Island Sharks scored first. Long Island scored on a wild pitch in the second inning and then plated three runs in the third inning, highlighted by a LIU runner stealing home, en route to taking a five-run lead into the fourth frame. The Maroon and Grey got on the board in the fourth inning when Ryan Davis hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Christian Azcona.

The Sharks answered the Hawks first run of the day with a pair of runs in the home-half of the fourth inning to expand their lead, 7-1. In the ensuing inning, Diego Aponte doubled to bring in Josh Caldwell for UMES' second run of the day. Maryland Eastern Shore had an opportunity in that same inning to get back in striking distance, loading the bases. Unfortunately for the Hawks, Long Island got a key strikeout to strand three UMES runners on the base paths.

After Long Island added some insurance runs in the sixth and eighth innings, the Sharks were able to cruise the rest of the way to a victory, 10-2.

THE NUMBERS

The Hawks scored two runs on eight hits and three errors while the Sharks amassed 10 runs on 13 hits and no errors.
