How It Happened
After defeating Florida A&M earlier in the day, the Hawks set an early tone in the opening set in a similar fashion to the prior match. After splitting the first 20 points with Hampton, the Hawks pulled away with a 9-1 run. Two kills each from Anjola Omolewa and Rayah Howell, a kill and a service ace from Karielys Melendez, and an ace from Kate-Linh Eden highlighted the scoring surge. Despite yielding a late 5-0 run to Hampton, UMES staved off the comeback effort, winning the opening set 25-22.
Although the Hawks began the second set by scoring eight of the first 11 points, Hampton closed the frame with an 11-5 run to take the second set.
In set three, the Maroon and Grey responded by once again going on a strong run in the middle of the set. Tied 12-12, the Hawks rattled off nine of the next 10 points, highlighted by a trio of kills from Nkemjika Ikemefuna and a pair of kills from Lilliana Montes. UMES finished the frame by winning three of the final four points en route to a 25-15 victory.
UMES never trailed in the fourth and final set, steadily increasing the lead as the frame went on. The Hawks continued their trend of mid-set scoring surges with a 7-2 run. UMES clinched the match with a kill by Melendez for game point to cement the second victory of the day for the Hawks.

All-Tournament Team
Omolewa and Matias were each named to the Hampton All-Tournament Team. Out of the four teams in the tournament, only six players were selected for a spot.Â
Matias started all 12 sets at libero for the Maroon and Grey, amassing 57 digs and averaging 4.75 digs per set. She registered 21 digs in each of her final two matches.Â
Omolewa attacked at a .500 clip across 46 total attacks at the Hampton Tournament, generating 26 kills. She also added four service aces and 11 blocks across 12 sets played.
