Hawks outdueled by Central State in four sets

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks lost their final leg of a five match road trip to Central State in four sets on Saturday.

MATCH BREAKDOWN
The Hawks won a dramatic opening set, 26-24. Coach Anitra Brockman and the Hawks jumped out to a 7-2 advantage over her former team before the Marauders stormed back to tie up the set, 10-10. Back-to-back kills by
Andre Mills had UMES regain form with a 16-14 lead but CSU would respond and eventually take a 23-21 lead after two service aces. Three errors by CSU combined with a kill by
Tavion Ford led to a set winning service ace by
Chase Valentine gave the Hawks the 26-24 victory.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, CSU would go one to win the next three sets. CSU took a dramatic 31-29 win in set two followed by 25-21 and 25-19 wins in set three and four to hand UMES its fifth loss of the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
UMES head coach Anitra Brockman previously coached at Central State is originally from the Miami Valley area.
Tavion Ford and
Andre Mills led the Hawks offensively with 12 kills each.
Chase Valentine led UMES with five blocks while
Kenyon Haynes finished with nine digs. Haynes also distributed 30 assists.
