Brianna Barnes finished off the Hawks' offensive efforts with six points in the quarter while
Kaliya Perry added a free throw.Â
Â
Though a slightly slower start in the second quarter as it took a minute and a half for UMES to score — a jumper from Perry — the Hawks continued to hold its lead as they outscored South Carolina State 13-10. Six Hawks put up points through the quarter as Barnes, Perry, Lynch,Â
Dakieran Turner and
Jailynn Clayton made their way to the basket.Â
Â
It took 1:45 into the second half until Turner put up the first points for either side to push the UMES lead to 32-16 on an and-one finish. Turner continued to pile on the points to start the third quarter as she followed up with another layup for her fifth straight point of the second half. Candela Sabater Sanchez added another long jumper for the Hawks to push the lead to 36-16 before the Bulldogs got on the board for the first time in the second half at the 6:27 mark. With Lynch,
Desi Taylor andÂ
Kalise Hill finishing off the Hawks' offensive success in the third, UMES led 51-23 headed into the final quarter.Â
Â
UMES continued to push its lead as
Enola Papin kicked off the fourth quarter with its first points. It took until the 4:25 mark for South Carolina State to get on the board, but Barnes, Carter, Papin andÂ
