SUMMARY
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore fell to Saint Peter's in Wednesday's doubleheader, 7–3 in Game 1 and 7–6 (8 Inn.) in Game 2.
Lola Meyer and
Gabriella Beltran led the Hawks' offense with two hits apiece. Meyer,
Araceli Manzo, and
Ryleigh Lilly accounted for three RBI each in Game 1.
In Game 2, the Hawks went into extra innings against the Peacocks.
Skylar Skinner led the Maroon and Grey with two home runs, three hits, three RBI and two runs scored, despite the 7–6 loss in eight innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
Saint Peter's broke the game open in the top of the second inning, scoring seven runs on a combination of hits, walks and UMES errors.
The inning began with a runner reaching on an error, followed by a walk to put two runners on base. A sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position before another walk loaded the bases. Saint Peter's capitalized on another defensive miscue, scoring two unearned runs to take the early lead.
A single through the left side brought home another run, followed by a two-run double and a triple that resulted in an additional unearned run, pushing the lead to 7–0 before UMES recorded the final outs.
UMES responded in the bottom of the second inning with two runs.
Gabriella Beltran opened the rally with a double to center field, followed by a single from
Lola Meyer to move Beltran to third. Meyer then stole second to put both runners in scoring position.
Araceli Manzo drove in the Hawks' first run with a groundout to shortstop, allowing Beltran to score. Moments later,
Ryleigh Lilly grounded out to first base to bring home Meyer, trimming the deficit to 7–2.
UMES added another run in the bottom of the sixth. Beltran opened with her second double of the game, and Meyer followed with a double to center field, driving in Beltran to make it 7–3. Strikeouts and a groundout ended the inning, and Game 1 concluded with Saint Peter's on top.
Game 2
Skylar Skinner opened with a solo home run to center field.
Gabriella Beltran followed with a single, and
Lola Meyer drew a walk to put two runners on base.
Chloe Weber then delivered an RBI single to extend the Hawks' lead to 2–0.
Saint Peter's cut into the deficit in the top of the fourth inning. A double down the left-field line and a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to third, followed by a UMES error and a single to left field that plated one run, making it 2–1.
UMES extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with a three-run rally. Weber walked, and
Makalah Clark pinch-ran and stole second.
Paige Perkins followed with a walk, and the pair executed a double steal to put runners in scoring position.
Araceli Manzo drew another walk to load the bases.
After a pop-up recorded the first out,
Skylar Skinner singled to bring home Clark.
Kinsey Mentzer followed with a sacrifice fly to score Perkins, and
Gabriella Beltran added an RBI single to score Manzo, extending the lead to 5–1.
Saint Peter's responded in the top of the fifth inning with two runs. A single and a fielding error allowed one run to score, followed by a sacrifice fly for another unearned run, trimming UMES' lead to 5–3.
The Peacocks took the lead in the top of the sixth inning with a three-run rally. After two quick outs, back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases. A walk forced in a run, and a single through the left side drove in two more, giving Saint Peter's a 6–5 advantage.
UMES answered immediately in the bottom of the sixth.
Skylar Skinner hit her second home run of the game to tie the score at 6–6. The Hawks were unable to build further momentum, as the next three batters were retired.
Saint Peter's regained the lead in the top of the eighth inning. A runner placed on second via the international tiebreaker advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, and a sacrifice fly brought the run home to give the Peacocks a 7–6 lead. UMES recorded the final out to end the game.
BY THE NUMBERS
Gabriella Beltran recorded her third multi-hit game of the season with two doubles in Game 1 and two singles in Game 2.
Lola Meyer's double in Game 2 extended her season total to five.
Skylar Skinner hit her fourth home run of the season and recorded her eighth RBI of the year.
Dani Brown pitched a complete game in Game 1, keeping the Peacocks scoreless for five innings.
