HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE

The UMES Hawks broke through in the top of the second inning to take an early lead.

Ryleigh Lilly started the frame with a walk before Paris Richards singled to second base, moving Lilly to second. Lola Meyer followed with a single to shallow right field to load the bases with no outs. A fielder's choice erased Lilly at home as the defense recorded the out at the plate.

After a strikeout for the second out of the inning, Paige Perkins drew a walk that plated Richards from third to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage.

Drexel responded with a surge of offense, scoring 11 runs across the second and third innings. The stretch was highlighted by a three-run home run in the second and a grand slam in the third.

UMES added its final run in the top of the fifth inning. Skylar Skinner opened the frame with a groundout before Kinsey Mentzer sparked the offense with a single to shallow left field. Mentzer advanced to second on a wild pitch before Clarke Calvin worked a walk and Amaya Nunez was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

With one out, Aylena Thompson lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Mentzer to tag and score.
