Skinner, Beltran Record Hits as UMES Battles George Washington

SUMMARY
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team fell to George Washington 4–0 on Wednesday afternoon, managing just two hits in a scoreless effort.

Skylar Skinner and Gabriella Beltran each recorded hits for the Hawks in the third and sixth innings, respectively. Dani Brown started in the circle for UMES, dealing four innings with one strikeout before Paris Richards relieved in the fifth and tossed two scoreless innings with one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks and Revolutionaries ended the first inning scoreless after Dani Brown faced four batters with one hit allowed.

George Washington scored its first run of the game with a double in the second inning to take a 1–0 lead. Skylar Skinner gave the Hawks their first hit in a two-out situation in the third, but a popup ended the inning with Skinner stranded.

After a scoreless fourth inning, George Washington put up three more runs to extend its lead to 4–0. The Revolutionaries recorded four hits and reached base with one error in the inning, taking advantage of UMES' defensive struggles.

Paris Richards entered in the fifth inning, holding George Washington scoreless through the final two frames.

In the sixth, a flyout opened the inning before Gabriella Beltran singled. Makalah Clark pinch-ran for Beltran as Lola Meyer drew a walk to put runners on first and second. A lineout and strikeout ended the inning with two Hawks left on base, still trailing 4–0.

UMES left a total of seven runners on base. Lola Meyer and Kinsey Mentzer each reached base on walks twice, while Araceli Manzo earned one walk.

BY THE NUMBERS
Skylar Skinner's hit improves her season total to 30. Gabriella Beltran's single brings her mark to 18.

Lola Meyer and Kinsey Mentzer each drew two walks, giving Meyer 12 and Mentzer six on the season. Araceli Manzo's walk marks 11.

Jada Lacey led the Hawks on defense with five putouts and three assists at shortstop. Lacey currently leads UMES in assists with 85.
