James Battle III named Sports Information Director at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has named James Battle III as a sports information director 

James E. Battle III comes to UMES after two years at Lincoln University (PA) as the assistant athletic director for communications and marketing. While at Lincoln, Battle managed all sports social media channels while producing and designing graphics, videos and marketing materials. 

Additionally with the Lions at Lincoln, Battle supervised and mentored athletics communications student staffers, interns and volunteers. Battle also led the production of broadcasts at home events in addition to statistical and content coverage. 

Battle previously served as the assistant sports information director at Hiram College from 2022 to 2024. At Hiram, he played a key role in expanding the athletics department's social media following by 2,000 followers and led a team of graphic designers and video editors while additionally conducting photography and videography efforts for sports events and promotional materials. He was also responsible for creating new initiatives, including the popular "Terrier of the Week" segment, which gained significant attention among students. 

Battle also served as a sports information intern for three years while enrolled at Montclair State University from 2018 through 2021. During this time Battle produced and designed videos and graphics for sports programs while producing photography and videography efforts for all sports events. 

Battle earned a bachelor's degree in television and digital media, concentrating in sports journalism, from Montclair State University in 2021. He also earned a master's degree in interdisciplinary studies, focusing on athletic communications, from Hiram College in 2024. 

ABOUT HAWK ATHLETICS 

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore sponsors an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program. The University currently fields teams in 15 sports: women's and men's volleyball, women's bowling, women's and men's golf, women's and men's cross country, women's and men's basketball, women's and men's indoor track & field, women's and men's outdoor track & field, softball, and baseball. 

The UMES women's volleyball, bowling, basketball, softball, track & field, and cross country programs compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). UMES golf, baseball, and men's volleyball compete as members of the Northeast Conference (NEC). In June, UMES also announced the addition of women's flag football which will compete in the MEAC beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year.
