NORFOLK, Va. – September 12, 2026 – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team opened play at the Old Dominion Tournament on Saturday, falling to Navy in four sets at the ODU Volleyball Center.
The Hawks (1-6) started the afternoon strong, taking the opening set 25-20. Navy answered by taking the second set 25-20 before capturing the final two sets 25-21 and 25-17 to secure the 3-1 victory.
Shayla Henry led the UMES attack with a team-high 11 kills while hitting .206. Malaysia Shaw turned in an efficient performance with nine kills on 15 attempts and a .467 hitting percentage, while Karielys Melendez and Rayah Howell each added eight kills.
Kate-Linh Eden helped run the Hawks' offense with 26 assists while also contributing 11 digs and two service aces. Arianna Warner-Torres led the defensive effort with a match-high 16 digs.
UMES also had a strong presence at the net. Dynasty Andrews led the Hawks with eight total blocks, including seven block assists, while Howell finished with five total blocks. The Hawks finished the match with 42 kills, 52 digs and 10 total blocks.
