The University of Maryland Eastern Shore cross country program concluded its first home meet of the season Saturday afternoon at the UMES Invitational in Princess Anne.

The men's cross country program opened the day's races with an 8K. In his season debut, junior Nkanyezi Niqubu placed first with a time of 26:25.15. Senior Siyabonga Mbatha followed closely behind, placing second with a time of 26:30.90.

The women's 5K was led by junior Rihanna Gayle, who finished with a time of 25:09.17. Freshman Lila Moore was the second Hawk to cross the finish line, completing the race in 26:06.20.

As a team, the UMES men placed third with 56 points, while the women's program finished fourth with 83 points.
