PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore welcomes Alex Murphy to the UMES track & field and cross country programs as an assistant coach, where he will work with the Hawks' men's and women's distance and cross country programs. In his role, he will assist with training, athlete development, competitive preparation and recruiting at the NCAA Division I level.

Murphy joins the Hawks after spending the 2025-26 academic year as a graduate assistant at The Catholic University of America. He supported the Cardinals' men's and women's cross country and track and field programs through coaching, recruiting, athlete development and day-to-day program operations.

As a collegiate student-athlete, Murphy competed in cross country and track and field at George Mason University from 2023-25 after beginning his career at American University from 2021-23. He was a three-time NCAA Regional Cross Country Championship competitor and earned three Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selections and two Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll selections.

Murphy earned a bachelor's degree in communication from George Mason University in 2025 and is pursuing a Master of Science in Management and Leadership from The Catholic University of America.
