FAIRFAX, Va. – September 5, 2026 – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's volleyball team opened the University of Maryland Tournament on Saturday with matches against George Mason and Hampton.
The Hawks fell 3-1 to George Mason before dropping a 3-0 decision to Hampton.
Maryland Eastern Shore 1, George Mason 3
UMES fell to George Mason by set scores of 17-25, 25-18, 15-25 and 18-25. The Hawks responded from an opening-set loss with their strongest offensive set of the match, hitting .346 to take the second, 25-18.
Karielys Melendez led the Hawks with 11 kills and two service aces. Shayla Henry added nine kills, while Jayda Hutchins finished with six kills, 18 assists and 10 digs. Arianna Warner Torres led the defensive effort with 12 digs.
Maryland Eastern Shore 0, Hampton 3
The Hawks closed the day against Hampton, falling by set scores of 17-25, 18-25 and 22-25. UMES improved throughout the match and hit .212 with 13 kills in the third set.
Melendez led Eastern Shore with eight kills, while Hutchins and Malaysia Shaw each added seven. Hutchins also recorded 14 assists, seven digs and two service aces. Dynasty Andrews finished with a team-high three total blocks.
