LADY HAWKS WIN SECOND PLACE IN THE TERRAPIN CLASSIC

College Park, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Women's Basketball Team (2-2) won second place in the Terrapin Classic falling to host University of Maryland College Park (4-0) in the Championship game by the score 65-97.

Senior Tiffany Winkfield recorded her third straight double double dropping 23 points and snatching 13 rebounds in the loss. Octavia Thompson added 25 for the Lady Hawks while getting a pair of rebounds and a pair of assists. For their efforts both were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Lady Hawks were within reach in the opening 10 minutes of the game, coming to within 19-17 with 11:08 left on the clock. Over the next six minutes, Maryland put together a 19-4 run to take a 38-22 lead with five minutes to play, and ended the half on an 11-2 tear, pushing its lead over 20 points and a 53-28 halftime advantage. Chrissy Fisher needed just 20 minutes to post her first-career double-double, pacing the Terps with 11 points and 11 rebounds. For her outstanding play she was named Tournament MVP.

UMES also got contributions from LaToshia Bailey who netted six points and grabbed six rebounds. Rachel Goodwin, still playing for the injured Laconia Hatcher, had five points and two rebounds.

In the second half, Maryland gradually built up its lead to a 30-point advantage by the 12:22 mark, 71-41. UMES' six-point run brought the Hawks to within 24, 71-47, with just under 10 minutes left to play, but the Terps pushed their lead back up 78-48 and never saw it dip below 26 for the rest of the game.

The Lady Hawks next game is in Brooklyn, New York on December 3rd against St. Francis College at 7:00 p.m.
