Princess Anne, MD - Liesel Harry had a double-double 19 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Coppin State Lady Eagles (9-8, 5-3 MEAC) over the University Maryland Eastern Shore (3-10, 1-6 MEAC) Lady Hawks 63-55 Saturday afternoon.
Tiffany Winkfield had 13 points and 10 assists while teammate Laconia Hatcher added 11 points and 4 rebounds for the Lady Hawks. Winkfield recorded her eighth double-double of the season.
The contest started off close with only a two-point difference in the score. With almost two minutes left in the first half, the Lady Eagles took the lead and ended the half with a 32-26 margin. In the second half, the score went back and forth. The efforts of the Lady Hawks were not enough, as they fell to Coppin State by eight points.
Antoinette Reese notched 20 points and three rebounds for the Lady Eagles. Talia Sutton added 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Lady Hawks will play the Morgan State Bears at home on January 26 at 5:30 p.m. UMES will then travel to challenge Savannah State and Florida A&M on January 29 and January 31, respectively.
It was Take A Kid to the game Night at the Hytche Athletic Center and over 200 children enjoyed free admission, hot dogs and drinks, giveaways from Pepsi, K-Mart of Salisbury, Chic-Fil-A, Pizza Plus of Princess Anne, MD, the UMES ATOD Center, and the UMES Bookstore. All had a great time.
