LADY HAWKS FALL TO HOWARD'S LADY BISON, 79-74

Princess Anne, MD - Tiffany Winkfield gets her fifth double-double of the season, but that was not enough to for University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks (2-6, 0-2 MEAC) to beat the Howard University Lady Bison (1-9, 1-0 MEAC) in their second conference match of the season by score 79-74 Monday night.

Winkfield had 22 points and 13 rebounds while teammates Laconia Hatcher scored 18 points and Rachael Goodwin had ten. The Lady Hawks continue their five-game skid.

The Lady Hawks closed the gap in the second half with a 68-68 tie with less than six minutes left in the game. The fans and cheered the team as they knew it was possible for the Lady Hawks to secure their first MEAC win. Winkfield made a lay-up at 5:02 that gained UMES the lead. The Lady Bison's Shauna Ruglass scored on a jumper at 4:52 that tied the game. Brittany James then made a jumper for Howard, which gave them the lead 72-70 at 3:38. Despite the Lady Hawks efforts, they were not able to pull out the victory.

This was Howard's first conference match and their first win of the season. Daisha Hicks and Andrea Jones both scored 16 points for the Bison.

The Lady Hawks will be on the road this weekend at North Carolina A&T on January 10 at 2:00 p.m. and at South Carolina State University on January 12 at 5:30 p.m. They return home January 24 against Coppin State at 2:00 p.m.
