Box Score

Washington D.C. - UMES placed three players in double figures but could not stop Andrea Jones and the Howard Lady Bison from scoring 44 points in each half to pick up the 88-74 win and a series sweep of UMES.

Jones recorded the first double-double of her career with 16 points and 16 rebounds to lead four players in double figures as Howard University powered its way to an 88-74 win over Maryland Eastern Shore in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's game at Burr Gymnasium.

Jones, a 6-3 junior, made 5 of her 6 shots from the field and helped the taller Lady Bison front line of 6-2 Shaun Ruglass (10 points, 3 rebounds), 6-5 Tracie Suggs (7 points, 6 rebounds) and 6-2 Sherice Gamble (6 points) dominate the smaller Lady Hawks, 62-37 on the boards.

The Howard backcourt of junior Daisha Hicks (14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists) and freshman Christina Aden (13 points) provided perimeter play to balance the Howard attack.

The Lady Bison (7-13 overall, 7-4 in the MEAC) took a 44-28 lead at the half and were never really seriously challenged in the second half.

UMES (6-14 overall, 2-10 in the MEAC) was paced by their backcourt of Laconia Hatcher (18 points, 5 rebounds) and LaToya Green (14 points), but it took 34 shots between them to account for their production.

GAME NOTES: Howard is trying to improve its position in the MEAC standings as it attempts to close out the regular season with 5 of its last 7 games on the road...Coach Parson is beginning to utilize her bench as 9 players logged between 19 and 27 minutes...freshman guard Shannon Carlisle and senior guard Laura Askew gave the Lady Bison a boost off the bench...Carlisle scored 6 points, dealt out 4 assists and recorded 3 steals in 20 minutes of play while Askew contributed 7 points and 3 rebounds in 19 minutes...despite having a considerably smaller team, UMES used its athleticism to record 9 blocked shots.

NEXT GAME: The Hawks host Savannah State in a non-conference game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Tawes Gymnasium while the Bison travel to Baltimore, MD on Saturday to square off against the Lady Bears of Morgan State at 5:30 p.m. in Hill Fieldhouse.
