Tallahassee, FL - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Baseball team (2-18-1, 0-3 MEAC) was swept by MEAC foe, the Rattlers of Florida A & M University (FAMU) (12-18, 4-2 MEAC), on March, 13th and 14th. FAMU took the three game series by scores of 16-3, 10-3, and 10-1.
Day one was twin bill action for the Hawks who had starters Sean Davis and Graylon Kitchens take losses. UMES collected 18 hits between the two games, but allowed FAMU to tally 22 of their own while scoring 26 runs.
Joel Maher went 2-7 on the day scoring a run and recording an RBI. Senior Bobby Shaw was on fire hitting 3-8 knocking in two runs and scoring a pair. Third baseman Rob Benak went 3-7 with an RBI while designated hitter Leon Tilghman continued is hot hitting going 3-7 at the plate. Greg Cathell, making his first appearance of the season in the outfield in game two, went 3-8 with a pair of RBIs and a run.
The Hawks scored two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth in game one while notching one in the first, sixth, and seventh innings of game two.
On day two the Hawks could only muster one run, that coming in the fifth inning with Graylon Kitchen collecting the RBI, scoring Joel Maher. Maher had another great day, going 2-3. Shaw collected a pair of hits and Cathell went 1-3 to account for the five UMES hits.
UMES left 23 runners stranded over the three-game period, forcing five Rattler errors and 24 Rattlers left on the bases. The Hawks committed just four errors in the three-game series.
Nest the Hawks travel to Coppin State College on the 20th and 21st for dual double headers, a four game series against the Eagles. They return home on the 23rd and 24th to take on Savannah State.
