UMES FALLS TO TOWSON IN NON-CONFERENCE AFFAIR

BALTIMORE, MD - Towson swept a non-conference doubleheader from the Lady Hawks at Towson Center Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers won by scores of 12-0 and 14-0. Both games were ended in the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule.

In the opener, Jillian Kiley broke the Towson (27-13) single game record by striking out 14 batters in five innings of work. Kiley pitched a two hit shutout, allowing only five UMES (7-29) batters to hit the ball in fair territory.

Senior Marlee Johnson (Stouffville, Ontario, Canada/Newmarket H.S.) and sophomore Danielle White (Westover, Md/Washington H.S.) accounted for the Hawks' two hits. Jeanne Bosch led the Tigers, going three-for-three with three RBI including a solo home run.

In the nightcap, two Towson pitchers combined for a one-hit shutout. Junior Jenille Edwards (Brampton, Ontario, Canada/St. Thomas Aquinas H.S.) accounted for UMES' only hit, a two-out single in the first inning.

Katie Mumbauer led the Tigers in the second game, as she went three-for-four with five RBI.

The Lady Hawks return to action this week with a pair of non-league games. UMES will host St. Francis College on April 23 in a senior day doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Lady Hawks will play their last game of the regular season at LaSalle on April 24 at 2 p.m.
