UMES HANDLES MORGAN STATE, 58-46

BALTIMORE, MD Tiffany Reid (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored a team-high 12 points and Toni Kennedy (Baltimore, Md.) added 11 to lead visiting UMES to a 58-46 victory over Morgan State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game at Hill Field House Saturday afternoon.

Whitney Johnson led Morgan with 14 points to go along with seven rebounds.

With the win UMES improved to 7-9 (5-3 MEAC) and has won five of its last seven games, including two straight.

The Lady Hawks jumped out to an 11-2 advantage following a three-pointer by Kennedy with 12:05 left in the opening period.

Morgan State (2-14, 2-5 MEAC) countered with six straight points over the next four minutes to pull within 8-11, but that was as close as the hosts would get.

UMES upped its lead to 26-16, following a trey by Reid, which capped off a 15-8 run by the Lady Hawks. UMES would cling to a 28-20 lead at halftime.

The Lady Hawks opened up the second half on a 20-11 run to take their largest lead of the game with 9:49 remaining in the contest.

The maroon and gray scored 20 points off of 27 Morgan State turnovers and held a 28-12 advantage in points in the paint for the game. UMES also held the Lady Bears to eight field goals the entire game.

The Lady Hawks will look to pick up their third consecutive win on Monday, January 30 when they face the Lady Eagles of Coppin State in a road decision. Game time at the Coppin Center is slated for 5:30 p.m.
