UMES DROPS FOURTH STRAIGHT GAME; FALLS AT NCAT 74-59

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UMES women's basketball team dropped its fourth straight contest Saturday afternoon, falling 74-59 to North Carolina A&T in a MEAC decision at Corbett Sports Center.

UMES (4-10, 1-2 MEAC) got a team high 14 points from Candyce Jeter (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy). Freshman April McBride (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle H.S.) pulled down 13 points and 13 rebounds for her first career double-double while Kristi Veltkamp (Hudsonville, Mich./Lansing Home School) contributed a game high four blocks.

Amber Bland had 25 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Aggies (7-6, 2-0 MEAC). Ta'Wuana Cook finished with 24 points and Brittany Taylor-James with 13.

The Lady Hawks outscored NCAT 14-6 in second chance points and held a 17-4 advantage in bench points. UMES also outscored the Lady Aggies 30-24 in the paint.

UMES played the Aggies even over the first six minutes of the second half, cutting the lead to 12 on a Jeter trey with 13:59 remaining. N.C. A&T jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first four minutes of the game and built the lead as high as 22 in the first period before taking a 39-24 lead at the break.

The maroon and gray will try to rebound on Monday, Jan. 8 when they face off against South Carolina State in Orangeburg, S.C.
