Box Score

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - The Bethune-Cookman (BCC) Lady Wildcats outscored the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's basketball team 9-1 in the final two minutes of play and upset the Lady Hawks, 47-46 in a MEAC decision Monday night at the Ocean Center.

Bethune-Cookman (4-22, 2-13 MEAC), who ended a 12-game losing steak with the win, whittled down a seven-point Hawk lead with 2:32 left. Tristan McCray's jumper at 49 seconds cut the UMES advantage down to one before Danielle Cooper hit a free-throw to put the maroon and gray up by two.

McCray converted a 3-point play with 22 seconds left to give the Lady Wildcats its first lead since 14:29 in the second half. UMES battled back but good defense by the 'Cats would not allow UMES to convert any baskets in the final seconds of play.

The contest featured nine lead changes and eight ties. Jasmine Speed's basket with just under a minute left in the first half pulled the Hawks to a 22-22 tie with BCC at the break.

UMES (11-15, 7-7 MEAC) got 13 points and four steals from April McBride. Cooper chipped in with 10 points and five assists off the bench.

The Wildcats were led by McCray's 16 points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Hawks will return to action on Saturday, February 24 for a homecoming and senior day contest against Morgan State at 2 pm.
