PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Junior Whitney Johnson (Prince Frederick, Md.) and sophomore Peter Sang (Kapsabet, Kenya) have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Athletes of the Week for the period ending Oct. 12.
Johnson totaled 39 kills in straight-set wins over Hampton (Oct. 10) and Coppin State (Oct. 12), and a 3-1 loss at Delaware (Oct. 8). She hit .700 against the Pirates and .526 versus the Eagles.
The volleyball team is back in action Wednesday, Oct. 15, travelling to Washington, D.C., to take on American at 7 p.m.
Sang, who earns his second straight Athlete of the Week honor, won the men's individual title at the UMES Hawk Challenge cross-country meet Saturday. His performance helped the Hawks to a second-place finish as a team. He crossed the finish line of the 8K course in 25:24.77.
The cross-country team runs next at the Delaware Invite in Newark, Del. Saturday, Oct. 18, at 10:30 a.m.
