Ridgeway and Jepngetich earn All-MEAC honors at conference championships

SMYRNA, Delaware – University of Maryland Eastern Shore cross country runners Jalen Ridgeway and Rebecca Jepngetich earned All-MEAC honors while racing at the conference championships on Saturday.

Ridgeway, a sophomore from Burlington, New Jersey, clocked his fastest time in an 8k event with a seventh place pace of 25:15.3. Bryce Ayers placed in 27^th for the Hawks with a time of 27:26.1. Destiny Emuze finished in 31^st place (27:56.0) while David Martin was in 34^th (28:25.2). Favion Gollop was in 40^th place (29:33.8) and Oshioke Isekenegbe came in 42^nd place (30:46.7). As a team, the UMES men finished in sixth place.

A freshman from Kenya, Jepngetich finished in eighth place in her first MEAC championship race with a time of 18:46.7. Shennell Simms was in 21^st place with a pace of 19:46.2. Rihanna Gayle finished in 27^th place (20:15.5). A trio of Hawk runners crossed the line in 39^th, 40^th and 41^st place as Shy-Ann Campbell ran the race in 22:17.2 followed by McKenzie Abiley (22:20.2) and Chloe Lucas (22:24.2). The UMES women also grabbed a sixth place result in the team scoring.

Norfolk State took both the men's and women's team titles. Meshack Kuyo of North Carolina Central won the men's individual crown while Joslyn Crosby from Howard was the individual women's champion.
