A pair of fifth place finishes for UMES cross country runners in New Jersey

A pair of fifth place finishes highlight the weekend for Hawk runners in New Jersey
 

NEWARK, New Jersey – Competing at the NJIT Highlander XC Challenge, University of Maryland Eastern Shore was paced by runners Jalen Ridgeway and Rebecca Jepngetich on Saturday.
 
Ridgeway, a Burlington, New Jersey native, ran strong in his home state with a pace of 25:42.1 and average mile time of 05:10.2 for a fifth place finish in a field of 246 competitors.  Ridgeway's time also marked his collegiate career best.

 
Jepngetich, a freshman from Eldoret, Kenya, also finished in fifth place in the women's run. In her first collegiate race, Jepngetich crossed the finish line with a time of 18:38.3 and an average mile pace of 5:59.9 to highlight the UMES women's team in a field of 219 runners.

 
The Hawk men and women also had identical results in the team standings as both squads finished in 11th place out of 31 teams.

 
UMES will be back in action at the Howard University Bison Invitational on Friday. The races will take place at Kenilworth Park in Washington, DC.
