EDWARDS, ROMERO REPEAT AS WEEKLY MEAC VOLLEYBALL WINNERS

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Sophomore Christine Edwards (Lakewood, Calif.) was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of Week and freshman Bella Jade Romero (Arlington, Texas) earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight week, the league announced Monday.

It is the fourth consecutive time UMES has been given a weekly honor by the conference this season and the fifth overall Rookie of the Week selection for Romero.

Edwards and Romero helped extend the Hawks winning streak to 13 matches with a 3-0 victory over North Carolina Central Sunday at the Hytche Center.

Edwards, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, tallied a team-high 12 kills on a .417 hitting percentage to go along with one service and one dig.

Romero, a 5-foot-6 setter, had 22 assists, five digs, one ace and one kill against the Eagles.

UMES, a No. 1 seed in the MEAC Tournament this weekend at Coppin State, open play in the quarterfinals Friday at 1 p.m.
