PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- Junior men's basketball guard Devin Martin (Baltimore, Md.) and junior women's basketball forward Taryana Kelly (North Brunswick, N.J.) were named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on January 19^th. Martin is being named for the second time while Kelly is being named for the first time.

Martin stormed back from a quiet first half to lead the Hawks' men's basketball team to a rout of the Savannah State Tigers this Saturday. He ended up leading the team in points with 23, to go along with six rebounds, a block and a steal in the 87-57 win. Martin's impressive performance on Saturday was only overshadowed by his effort against Morgan State the previous Monday. In that game he went 10-for-16 en route to 26 points, another six rebounds and two more steals. Martin was the leading scorer against the Bears, too, as the Hawks went 2-0 this past week.

Kelly started off with a solid contribution against the Lady Bears, picking up two points, five boards and a pair of blocks over 23 minutes against Morgan State. However her finest performance came Saturday against the Lady Tigers. Playing in 30 of the 40 minutes, Kelly set the pace early, earning seven points and ten boards in the first half alone. She ended up with nine points and a career high 19 rebounds to go along with an assist and a steal in the 61-50 UMES victory.

Both players will face off against South Carolina State at home this evening before traveling to take on Bethune-Cookman this Saturday in the first leg of a Florida road trip.
