PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - In their final tune-up before the regular season, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Basketball team flourished as they defeated the Wesley Wolverines, 93-37, at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.

Offensively, the squad shot nearly 56-percent and all 13 Lady Hawks in uniform scored. Defensively, UMES forced 23 turnovers, led by reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Year Alexis Udoji (Randolph, Mass.). Udoji filled the stat sheet, playing 27 minutes while recording nine points, eight boards, and five steals. Moengaroa Subritzky (Auckland, New Zealand), 2015 MEAC All-Tournament selection, chipped in 10 points in the victory.

Seconds in the game, junior Mariah McCoy (Rock Hill, S.C.) drilled a three-pointer and jump started the Lady Hawks attack. Maryland Eastern Shore led, 18-8, after one. Wesley's Maura Binkley nailed a jumper and trimmed the margin back to single-digits, but UMES turned up the intensity defensively. In the second quarter alone, the Lady Hawks scored 17 points off turnovers and outscored the Wolverines, 27-5, to take a commanding halftime lead, 45-13.

After the 15-minute intermission, Maryland Eastern Shore continued to dominate in the paint. In the third, UMES outscored the Wolverines, 18-4, inside the paint. With less than 15 ticks remaining in the third, a layup by Ciani Byrom (Winston-Salem, N.C.) ballooned the lead to 38 points, 69-31.

UMES' bench squad showcased the team's depth as they tallied 24 points in the fourth. Sophomore Shauntesha Bryant headlined the quarter as she accounted for the Lady Hawks first eight points in the fourth. As the time dwindled down, freshman Tantania Brown (Washington) scored the Lady Hawks final bucket in the contest with a layup as UMES won by the final score 93-37.

Maryland Eastern Shore's bench tallied 54 points in the contest, led by Bryant. The New York product registered a team-high 13 points and grabbed five rebounds. Byrom added 10 points, including a perfect 4-of-4 from the field in the win.

Wesley was held to 24-percent shooting, but Brionna Johnson was the lone bright spot. Johnson notched a game-high 15 points while shooting 60-percent (6-of-10) from the floor, including 50-percent (3-of-6) from beyond the arc.

On Nov. 13, the Lady Hawks open the regular season inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center as the Georgetown Hoyas come to town. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
