Elliott, Leitch Named UMES PRMC Athletes of the Week

Feb. 9, 2016 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior Men's Basketball forward Dominique Elliott (Savannah, Ga.) and junior track hurdler Shelasia Leitch (Newark, N.J.) were named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 8th. Dominique is being named for the fourth time while Shelasia is being named for the first time this year.

Elliott scored a game-high 23 points to go with eight rebounds as the Hawks defeated the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) first-place team, Hampton, 73-70 on Saturday (Feb. 6). Earlier in the week, he finished with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds as the Hawks knocked off Howard 85-67 in a game televised live on ESPNU.

Leitch broke the women's 60 meter hurdles record at the Scarlet & White Invitational on Saturday. She raced to a time of 8.57 seconds in the finals at Boston University, ultimately finishing in third place. However, that tops Shavon Robinson's time of 8.63 seconds back in 2005 to set the new school standard.

Elliott, and the Hawks are back in action on Saturday, February 13th at 4:00 against Delaware State. On Thursday, February 11th, Leitch and the Hawks will travel to Landover, Md. to compete in the MEAC Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
