Softball Concludes Road Slate Against Dragons

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.
- In their final road test of the 2016 season, Coach Sam Douglas and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Softball Team travels to Philadelphia, Pa. where the Drexel Dragons await.

The doubleheader action begins 2 p.m. at Drexel Softball Field.

Fans will have the opportunity to follow all the action via Live Stats.

LAST TIMEOUT

Last weekend (April 23-24), the squad won one-out-of-three against Morgan State.

Saturday (April 23), UMES was swept by in-state foe Morgan State (MSU). MSU won game one in extras, 2-1, and followed up with an impressive performance in the nightcap, 7-0. Sophomore Adrienne Guerra (Monrovia, Calif.) struck out nine batters in the game one loss.

The next day (April 24), Maryland Eastern Shore held on to win, 4-2, with Guerra tying her season-high 10 strikeouts in the win.

MATCHUP PREVIEW

Drexel (17-29) looks to rebound after being swept by conference foe Hofstra. This season, the Dragons have won all their games in nonconference play. Also, Drexel is 10-3 versus Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foes. Offensively, Paula Ueno leads the club in batting average (.418) and OPS (1.018). In the circle, Tara Konopka has tossed 124 innings and accumulated an 8-17 record.

For the Lady Hawks (11-26), they are looking to build momentum as they finish the season this weekend against Howard. UMES has been in several close contest, losing six games by a run. Senior Vanessa Gomez (Belleville, N.J.) guides the Hawk attack, posting .350 at the plate. Fellow classmates Trenece Nash (Decatur, Ga.) and Kaitlyn Hitch (Delmar, Md.) are also batting over .300. Guerra leads the pitching staff with a team-high nine wins and 125 strikeouts.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

This weekend (April 30-May 1), the Lady Hawks end their 2016 campaign with a three-game home series against Howard.

Saturday's (April 30) doubleheader starts 1 p.m. whereas Sunday's (May 1) seven-inning contest begins noon at Hawks Field.

Sunday is also Senior Day; thus, seniors from both squads will be recognized before the first pitch.
