DURHAM, North Carolina - Playing in historic Durham Athletic Park, the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks found themselves on the losing end of a performance that would have made Crash Davis and Nuke LaLoosh proud. North Carolina Central stormed ahead to an early lead, and then made it stand up by pitching a four hit shutout, blanking the Hawks by a 6-0 score.
Juniors Jamison Trower (Chesterfield, Virginia) and Dallas Culotta (Princess Anne, Maryland), sophomore Ryan Rotondo (Warwick, Rhode Island) and freshman Derek Schoff (Colora, Maryland) collected hits for The Shore.
On the mound, junior Christian Rose (Martinsburg, West Virginia) contributed an inning of scoreless relief. Freshman Andre Bell (Detroit, Michigan) took the loss in his first collegiate start.
Central earned the victory with an early burst of offense, scoring twice in the first, and adding runs in the second and third innings.
Maryland Eastern Shore returns to conference play with a home series against Norfolk State. There will be a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday followed by a single game Sunday at noon.
