Larry Stewart Joins Eastern Shore Staff

Former Coppin State Star Becomes Hawks Assistant

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team has gained its third assistant in Larry Stewart ahead of the upcoming season.

"Larry is a great addition to our staff," head coach Jason Crafton said. "He's arguably one of the best players to ever play in the MEAC and also has an array of basketball playing and relevant coaching experiences that will be heavily relied on."

Stewart's most recent stop was at fellow MEAC member Morgan State. He would spend four seasons with the Bears from 2015-19.

Prior to MSU, he spent six seasons at Bowie State University from 2009-15. The Bulldogs went 91-50 during his time there. BSU would win the 2013 CIAA Tournament with Stewart on the sideline and he would also be instrumental in the recruitment of 2015 CIAA player of the year Cameron Knox.

As a player, Stewart was a star at Coppin State University from 1987-91. He would tally 1,824 points and 1,052 rebounds over his career. The Eagles would advance to the NCAA Tournament in 1990. His jersey number was retired by Coppin State after his career. He would go on to play 17 years of professional basketball highlighted by his first six seasons in the NBA from 1991-97 with the Washington Bullets, Vancouver Grizzlies and Seattle Supersonics.

"I am very grateful to Coach Crafton and the Maryland Eastern Shore family for giving me this opportunity," Stewart said. "I am looking forward to this challenge of building a winning culture and a successful men's basketball program."

The Hawks open the season on Nov. 5 at Penn State.
