GREENSBORO, North Carolina — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is in second place after one day of competition at the Stallings Invitational, trailing only host North Carolina A&T State. The Hawks went 5-0 and averaged a pin fall of 201.0 (5,024) for Baker Competition.

The Aggies are 4-1 and have a 213.6 average (5,339).

The Shore (38-4) topped Prairie View A&M 1,016-972 in the opening match and followed that up with a 1,011-846 win against MEAC rival Coppin State. The Hawks finished out the day with win against University of Alabama-Birmingham (1,019-987), Tuscelum (1,010-897) and Howard (968-952).

Sophomore Chloe Skurzynski (Carlisle, Pennsylvania) had a strong day for Eastern Shore with a 52% strike percentage and picked up nine-or-better on the first ball a team-high 80% of the time.

Classmate Isabel Hughes (Raleigh, North Carolina) had a good day as well with a 48% strike rate and an 89% fill percentage.

Senior Cayla Hicks (Salem, Virginia) boasted a 50% strike percentage, made all eight of her single pin spares and had an 88% fill percentage.

Classmate Brigitte Jacobs ( Freeport, Illinois) filled 88% of the time, struck at 46% and had nine-or-better on her first ball 72% of the time.

The Hawks pushed their consecutive match winning streak to 28.

Saturday will feature five Traditional matches, followed by one more Traditional match and bracket play on Sunday.
