GREENSBORO, North Carolina — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore struggled to a 2-3 record on the first day of competition at the second and final Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference meet of the season.
The Hawks (53-35, 9-5 MEAC) topped Norfolk State (860-797) and University of Alabama-Birmingham (977-905) with the 977 being their highest team total of the day. A setback to Monmouth (966-914) started the day off and the squad also lost to Howard (988-911) and Coppin State (904-858).
Freshman
Chloe Skurzynski (Carlisle, Pennsylvania) and
Paulina Torres (Ponce, Puerto Rico) were the only Hawks to bowl all five matches. Skursynski averaged a 189.6, while Torres averaged 181.4.
Alexandra Hernandez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) had a three-game average of 195.0.
The six-team field for the MEAC Tournament will be determined by average pinfall from both MEAC No. 1 and MEAC No. 2 instead of win-loss record.
After three total days of competition, Eastern Shore is in fourth place with a total pinfall of 12,555 and an average of 179.36.
Day 2 will feature Baker competition.
