HAMPTON, Virginia – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's and women's golf teams both finished second in the Hampton University Invitational over the weekend (Sept. 21-22) at EagleWood Golf Course.
This was each team's first tournament of the 2019-20 season. It was also Billy Dillon's first tournament as the head women's golf coach. Dillion is the Director of the PGA Golf Management program at the university.
Sophomore Briahna Willis (Little Rock, Arkansas) led the way for the Hawks posting a 80+83=163 (+19) to finish in fourth place. Junior Morgan Miner (Fort Washington, Maryland) shot a 91+82=173 (+29) finishing in seventh over the two day event.
For the men, senior Young Lee (Mount Airy, Maryland) fired off a 76+80+72=228 (+12) over the three round tournament to finish in fourth to begin his final season with the Hawks. In his first collegiate event, freshman Thabang Moephuli (Johannesburg, South Africa) shot a 74+78+79=231 (+15) to finish fifth behind his teammate.
The men's team will tee it up next at the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Tournament in Newnan, Georgia on Sept. 25-26. The women's team will travel to the Green Turtle Invitational in Front Royal, Virginia hosted by Shenandoah University on Oct. 5.
