Hawks to Host Washington for homecoming tilt

UMES looking for opening win of the season

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's basketball squad will finally get to play a home contest on Saturday (Nov. 12) when they host Division III Washington College for a Homecoming tilt at 2 p.m.

The Hawks (0-2) began the season with a pair of road games against Miami and George Washington respectively and will be looking forward to playing in the friendly confines of the William P. Hytche Center.

"It's great to be at home and we're looking forward to it," Hawks coach Fred Batchelor said. "The kids have really shown a lot of growth on the road, so we are looking forward to them taking care of business at home in front of a great home atmosphere for Homecoming."

The young squad made some strides in the second game and Batchelor has enjoyed being able to focus on the growth in this early part of the season.

"We cut our turnovers down after the first game," Batchelor said. "We had a lot of miscues there and we still had some miscues with 15 turnovers against GW, but that was half of what we had in the first game. We were 13-of-13 from the line and we are now up to 80% on the season. We want to keep that going at home. We just want to show a level of focus in being able to play in front of our home crowd and not be distracted.

"That is going to be the most important thing for us as well as playing a complete game. We have had some really good quarters and some bad quarters, so we'd like to see if we can put four quarters together. That is going to be the biggest challenge."

The game is part of a doubleheader and the men will face Bryn Athyn in the second game at approximately 4 p.m.
