Hawks Add Former Pro Montay Brandon to Coaching Staff

Brandon comes to UMES from UNC Charlotte

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team recently added Montay Brandon to the coaching staff as an assistant coach for the 2022-23 season.

Brandon most recently held the graduate assistant position on the University of North Carolina at Charlotte's coaching staff. Prior to coaching, Brandon played professionally overseas for five seasons.

"I feel extremely blessed and fortunate," Brandon said. "I'm a young guy in the business, and coach Crafton thought of me enough to bring me on his staff, bring me around the guys and let me be part of something special here."

The Greensboro, North Carolina native most recently played for St. John's Edge in the Canadian Basketball league and made stops at Luxembourg, Hong Kong, Japan and Indonesia.

Brandon was a four-year starter at Florida State, finishing his collegiate career with the most starts of any Seminole in program history (122) and ranks in the top-25 in free throws made (22nd), free throws attempted (16th) and games played (4th).

"He's seen a lot of the same things I've seen in my career," head coach Jason Crafton said. "He brings an energetic approach and a lens of being able to see how things are done at the highest level, which is an element that we are trying to continue to bring to UMES."

"He's a very talented player, a young coach on the rise and we're excited to have him be a part of our program."
