Hawks will go for fourth straight win at Morgan

Two regular season games remain

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore won its third straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contest on Saturday at home against Coppin State 60-51 and will turn around and try to make it four on Monday (Feb. 28) at Morgan State.

The Bears (15-7, 9-3 MEAC) are currently tied for second in the conference and fighting for seeding position for the MEAC tournament, while the Hawks (10-14, 6-6) seem likely to remain in their fifth spot after the season finale Thursday.

Morgan State needed an extra five minutes, but in the end the visiting Lady Bears were able to overcome a sluggish start and spoil Delaware State's Winter Homecoming and Senior Day, with a hard fought 69-63 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory on Saturday at Memorial Hall.

Senior Charlene Shepherd was one of two Lady Bears to record double-doubles, as she came off the bench to finish with a team-high 18 points and grabbed a team-leading 12 rebounds, to help the Lady Bears sweep the season series and keep the Hornets winless on the season.

Eastern Shore has won five of its last seven since falling to Morgan State at home on Jan. 31. The stretch of strong play had coincided with a renewed focus on defense and rebounding. Two years ago a stretch of strong play at the end of the regular season propelled the team into a tournament run derailed by COVID.

"I feel like we have shown that we can come together at the end of the year," junior Mya Thomas said. "We are getting started now."
