PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland – The Maryland Eastern Shore track and field team has been waiting for this moment since 2020, a chance to show what it's made of at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference outdoor championships. The meet starts on Thursday (May 12) and takes place at Dick Price Stadium on the campus of Norfolk State University.
Events kick off with the men's decathlon, which
Caleb Goslee has been training for after being named the Most Improved athlete at the Harry's this past week. Following the start of the meet will be a slew of field events for the men and women, including the discus and high jump.
Currently
Nasir Neal-Watson sits with the sixth best discus throw in conference, looking to improve on his current mark.
Running events will also start on Thursday, with freshman
Spencer Settle in solid position to place if she can keep with her seasons best. Last time running at Norfolk, Settle ran a 1:01.63, good for the second-best time in the MEAC.
On Friday the Hawks are poised to compete in several events, starting off with the women's long jump where
Naomi English currently sits at fourth in the conference.
The preliminaries for the 400m are also on Friday, where
Jahlahnee Watkins and
Janoi Brown are expected to advance, sitting at fourth and second, respectively, in the MEAC. Watkins was recently named the Maryland Eastern Shore indoor track athlete of the year and Brown receiving the same honor for outdoor.
There will also be the hammer throw, where
James Perkins is expected to place well, sitting fourth so far in the conference.
Championships wrap up on Saturday, with multiple Hawks looking to add hardware to their mantle. In the men's pole vault
Joshua Goslee currently holds the second-best jump in the MEAC, then also in the field
Atinuke Shittu sits second in the triple with her 12.12m jump at the Penn Relays.
Events wrap up with the men's and women's 4x400m, head coach
Damion Drummond's favorite event.
For those that cannot attend the event, Saturday's events will be streamed live starting at 1 p.m. on the MEAC Digital Network on YouTube.
