PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has announced the 2022 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field All-Academic selections, honoring 158 student-athletes from the conference's eight member institutions who have achieved academic success.
23 members of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore squad earned All-Academic honors including: Fasil Amado (Rockville, Maryland), Ashane Beckford (Clarendon, Jamaica), Naomi English (Kensington, Maryland), Chislon Gordon (St. Thomas, Jamaica), Caleb Goslee (Salisbury, Maryland), Jalen Gourrier (Cockeysville, Maryland), Ryan Gui Dibo (Bear, Delaware), Mya Johnson (Bryan's Road, Maryland), Lyric Kelley (Joppa, Maryland), Edwin Kipruto (Iten, Kenya), Witchell Laurier (Salisbury, Maryland), Jaylin Nelson (Hyattsville, Maryland), Malik Melhado (Brooklyn, New York), Nasir Neal-Watson (Salisbury, Maryland), Zachary Opon (Laurel, Maryland), James Perkins (Chincoteague, Virginia), Atinuke Shittu (Germantown, Maryland), Shawn Smith (St. Catherine, Jamaica), Jadaya Strand (Millsboro, Delaware), Jazmine Thomas (Greenbelt, Maryland), Jazmyne Walker (Norfolk, Virginia) and Jahlahnee Watkins (Bronx, New York).
The Hawks finished the season at the MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 12-14.
MEAC sophomore, junior and senior student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average (GPA), as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year, are eligible for All-Academic accolades.
"Congratulations to our outdoor track & field All-Academic student-athletes," MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills said. "Education is the cornerstone of everything we do, both at the conference level and in intercollegiate athletics as a whole. Academic achievement is just as worthy of praise as anything accomplished in competition, if not more so."
