PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has announced the 2022 Softball All-Academic Selections, honoring 87 student-athletes from the conference's eight softball-playing institutions who have achieved academic success.
Eleven members of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore squad — which was named the women's Team of Scholar's at the athletic department's end of year Harry's Awards on April 9 — earned All-Academic honors including: Ameenah Ballenger (Lansdowne, Pennsylvania), Kelsie Esktrom (Riverside, California), Julia Garcia (Cornwall, New York), Nasya Goodman (Willingsboro, New Jersey), Taylor Harrison (District Heights, Maryland), Tatum Kresley (Alburtis, Pennsylvania), Saje Kurpiela (Campbell River, British Columbia), Ryan Merriwether (Inglewood, California), Ah-Naiya Oglesby (Tampa, Florida) and Kaylyn Sterling (Half Moon Bay, California).
The Hawks (18-33) finished the season this week with a pair of losses at their first MEAC Tournament since the 2009 season.
MEAC sophomore, junior and senior student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average (GPA), as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year, are eligible for All-Academic accolades.
"I want to congratulate our softball student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom this season," MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills said. "So much of the focus on intercollegiate athletics focuses on what happens on the field, what happens in the classroom is the ultimate goal, and these young ladies are to be commended for their accomplishments."
